Shovel Point Lake Superior
The trees are in full bloom, the grass is green, and the birds have returned to reclaim the land they left last fall.  It's summer in Northeast Minnesota.  And there's no place more beautiful than the Arrowhead Region.  So much to do in so little time.  Watch the boats enter the Duluth harbor in Southern St. Louis County.  Visit the rocky North shore of Lake Superior.  Enjoy the tranquility of the Gunflint Trail in Cook County.  Watch for moose driving the back roads of Lake County.  Drive to where the road North ends in Ely and enter the endless water way of the BWCA in Northern St. Louis County.  Maybe you want to try an off road adventure in Gilbert's OHV park in Central St. Louis County.  Sounds like a lot to do.  Right?  Well, I haven't mentioned the thousands of lake's that are scattered across the Arrowhead Region of Northeast, MN.  The fish have just finished spawning and they're hungry.  The bass are crushing crayfish.  Trout are feeding on smelt.  The Walleye and Northern Pike are feeding on Perch and the Musky are eating everything.  The infamous Walleye bite steady till August, then starts to slow in the warm water.  That's when the Bass are at their best.  With so many species of fish to choose from, there's never a slow moment.  No place in the Midwest can offer such a wide variety of experiences.  So plan the vacation you want.  A remote Canadian style setting at half the price.  A stay at a quiet lodge on the lake.  Tenting it on one of the hundreds of campsites in the Superior National Forest or Voyageur's National Park.  A visit to one of many state parks.  A stay in a friendly small town for fishing and shopping.  A campsite on your own little island.  Or just a day of recreation hopping dock to dock at shops along Lake Vermilion.  Whatever type of vacation you choose, you will not be alone.  Loons and Bald Eagle's fish along your side.  White tail deer wonder down to the shoreline of lakes and rivers for a drink of  water.  Beaver stand guard by their hut.  And the occasional moose can be spotted forging across the lake in search of food.
Burntside Lake
Ah... Spring!  The ice has just left the lakes  The water is cool and crisp.  And you can smell the trees coming alive.  The fish are getting ready to spawn.  You're anticipating the upcoming Walleye and Northern Pike opener.  It's time to get your boat out of storage and sea worthy.  Re-spool your fishing poles with new line, and find out where you left your tackle box.  Now's a good time to get out on the waters and work out the kinks.  Have a ball chasing the Crappies and Bluegills from the protection of the deep water to the slowly warming shallows.  Maybe cast a fly in a near by stream for the new beginning of the trout season.
Fall Colors
Put the shorts away and dig out the light jacket.  Fall is in the air and what a beautiful season in Northern Minnesota.  The leaves are changing color and there's no better way to see them than in the reflection of the lake water.  Although time seems to go by slower, the fishing is not.  The colder water is letting them know they need to start feeding in preparation for the long winter.  You have one last chance to chase the fish from the shallows to the deep water before the ice starts to form on the lake.  Leave your bug spray at home.  The cool air assures a nuisance free fishing experience.  Then, relax the night away next to a warm fireplace.

You're not alone in this adventure.  Check out our Lake of the Week Every week during the fishing season, Frank and Pat will be visiting a new lake.  We will monitor the conditions, record our catch, tell you how we caught them, and release the video on Mondays for you to enjoy at home.  Be sure to check out our archived videos that can be found on the Northern St. Louis County, Central St. Louis County, Southern St. Louis County, Lake County, and Cook County pages.  You should find our website easy to navigate and help you target a lake that holds the species of fish you're looking for.
Winter
Fish House
The days are shorter and the nights are colder.  Feels like your frozen in time.  Often referred to as the most miserable season in Northern Minnesota, winter here is anything but miserable.  Winter offers a fishing experience unique to any other.  Lakes become small cities on the ice ranging from a 4X4 hut to a small home away from home.  All accessed by plowed ice roads or snowmobiles.  No words can describe the excitement of pulling a fish through a 10 inch hole.  And their are many ways to enjoy the sport called Ice fishing that so many Minnesotans have come to enjoy.  Some like to sit on a bucket and jig.  Some take shelter in a small portable hut with propane heaters, while others choose to jig for fish while watching television and sipping coffee in their miniature ice palaces.  Whatever you choose, I guarantee you it will be an experience of a life time.  In fact, some resorts rely solely on the ice fisherman, renting out comfortably heated fish houses accessed by plowed ice roads labeled by street signs.  There are a wide variety of winter sports in the area including down hill and cross country skiing, dog sledding, and snowmobiling.  Sometimes combined with the sport of ice fishing.  So spend a day on the ice and an evening relaxing at the lodge bar.  Or maybe just cozy up to the warm fireplace in your cabin and enjoy a good book.
